Get Involved : Coventry Central Foodbank

By Gavin Kibble, January 09, 2011

Over 4 tonnes of food collected available for distribution across Coventry FREE

In partnership with UK charity The Trussell Trust, four city centre churches (Mosaic, The Cathedral, Holy Trinity and Queens Road Baptist Church) have launched a foodbank to provide emergency food to people in crisis in Coventry.

Collections of food took place at Morrisons and Tesco in the week running up to Christmas and Coventry Central Foodbank (based at Broadgate House) now hold almost 5 tonnes of food for distribution to people and families in need.

Every foodbank client is referred by a frontline care professional such as a doctor, social worker, school, faith based organisation or voluntary sector.

Food parcels contain three days of nutritionally balanced non-perishable foods such as tinned fruit, vegetables, meat and fish as well as pasta, cereal, UHT milk, sauces, tea, long-life juice and can be collected from distribution points around the city (normally church cafes).

We urgently need volunteers who are willing to help collect, sort and distribute food. Please give Gavin a call on 0774 775 6252 if you can give a little time to this amazing project.
