Day 5: Fourth Movement - Great Things

Welcome to day 5 of our preparation for our Symphony of Prayer later this week. One of the recurring themes in the Psalms is that of one generation declaring to the next the great things that God has done. Our Psalm on day 1 declared

“He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord.”

The realisation of all that God has done in our lives and the lives of those around us should and does spark a song of praise from within,  but the song doesn’t need to wait until God’s work is finished in us, that song can explode from our lives even in the waiting. Seeing and declaring God’s greatness in our lives builds faith and trust in His character and His ability to do far more than we can ask or dream. As I was looking for a scripture for this devotion, I came across this Psalm in the Passion Translation, I really don’t think it needs too much narration, so we’ll spend our time together today just reading this Psalm, Psalm 96.

“Go ahead—sing your new song to the Lord! Let everyone in every language sing him a new song. Don’t stop! Keep on singing! Make his name famous! Tell everyone every day how wonderful he is. Give them the good news of our great Saviour. Take the message of his glory and miracles to every nation. Tell them about all the amazing things he has done.

For the Lord’s greatness is beyond description and he deserves all the praise that comes to him. He is our King-God and it’s right to be in holy awe of him. Other gods are worthless. For the Lord God is Creator-God, who spread the splendour of the skies! Breathtaking brilliance and awe-inspiring majesty radiate from his shining presence. His stunning beauty overwhelms all who come before him. Surrender to the Lord Yahweh, all your nations and peoples.

Surrender to him all your pride and strength. Confess that Jehovah alone deserves all the glory and honour. Bring an offering and come celebrate in his courts. Come worship the Lord God wearing the splendour of holiness. Let everyone wait in wonder as they tremble in awe before him. Tell the nations plainly that Yahweh rules over all! He is doing a great job, and nothing will disrupt him, for he treats everyone fair and square. Let the skies sing for joy!

Let the earth join in the chorus. Let oceans thunder and fields echo this ecstatic praise until every swaying tree of every forest joins in, lifting up their songs of joyous praise to him! For here he comes, the Lord God, and he’s ready to judge the world. He will do what’s right and can be trusted to always do what’s fair.”

Our song today is Phil Wickham’s Great Things, this is an incredible song of praise, filled with thanks and faith for all God has and all God will do. As you listen “Don’t stop! Keep on singing! Make his name famous! Tell everyone every day how wonderful He is”
